Matthew Nathan

Prior to ALI, Matt Nathan was vice admiral (retired) and the 37th surgeon general of the United States Navy, responsible for 64,000 personnel, including those deployed with Navy and Marine Forces and those in tertiary care medical centers, teaching hospitals, and more than 50 stand-alone hospitals and clinics over five continents. He brokered healthcare policy supporting care for recovering warriors, combat trauma, and over one million beneficiaries receiving care ranging from neonates to geriatrics, while also coordinating humanitarian assistance and disaster relief globally. Matt was co-chair of the Recovering Warrior Task Force and commander/CEO of the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. A medical doctor, he most recently was senior vice president of WakeMed, a regional healthcare system in Raleigh, North Carolina.
