Surjit Chana

2017 ALI Fellow
Former Chief Operating Officer of IBM Digital

As a 2017 ALI Fellow, Surjit Chana was focused on solutions to address intergenerational poverty and gender equality in emerging countries. Chana believed that providing women with financial tools they need would drive prosperity for the women, their families, and communities. He used the resources at ALI, including the advice of his peers, and realized he could have the greatest impact by bringing his skills to an existing organization: Women’s World Banking (WWB). Chana joined WWB in 2017 as the executive vice president with broad responsibility including fundraising, marketing and communications, business development, and programs. Chana successfully worked with the organization and board of directors to approve the plan to expand the impact of the organization by 10 times and reach over 24 million women by 2022.
