Ray Jetson

2010 ALI Fellow, 2011 Senior ALI Fellow
Former Pastor of Star Hill Church

As a 2010 ALI Fellow, Ray Jetson knew he wanted to continue his work with Baton Rouge communities. Jetson organized a weekend retreat with his ALI Cohort, and identified ways to improve the city, including mobile farmers’ markets to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and partnerships with legal and medical organizations to help children who suffered from asthma. Initially, Jetson created Better Baton Rouge (BBR) as a civilian-led initiative to implement the programs. Then in 2012, he founded MetroMorphosis, a nonprofit, in order to further BBR’s reach. In addition to the original programs, MetroMorphosis oversees the Urban Congress on African American Males, a movement of engaged community members and organizations dedicated to transforming the experiences of black boys and men, and the Urban Leadership Development Initiative, which creates a pipeline of adaptive leaders focused on the inner city, and LaunchBR, a small business development effort designed to create inclusive competitiveness and economic vitality in the urban core.
